Welcome to my brand new website dedicated only to my mini jacks: The Nugger, Trixie, Coco Pups, Nirley, Tyke and Pippa !

Due to popular demand I decided to give them their own website as a lot of Jack Russell lovers out there felt the Irish Glens were getting all the glory on my other website www.freewebs.com/bailielands AND I felt myself that my Jacks occupy a very large part of my life but all you ever hear about online is about the Glens :)

Here'll I tell you about my own kennel of minijacks and standard jacks.

10 to 12" high at the shoulder is a normal size range jack and under 10" I call a minijack.

My own jacks are founded upon Old Irish ( Bailebroc) and English ( Cumbreck) lines and are IKC and FCI registered.

These are short legged Jacks not the Parson Russell type which is always taller than long.

My minijacks are straight legged, drop eared, have lots of colour, are sporty, affectionate, very good with kids and other dogs and are typically 3 kilos in weight, around 7 lbs and under 10" high.

My standard jacks are usually 10" to 11" high at the shoulder, and in all other ways meet the IKC and FCI standard

My prefix is Bailielands and I began with Bailebroc Freddy's Boy / Toby ( generation 2 ) and Cumbreck Tiny Pippa ( generation 1) in 2004.

From Toby & Pippa came Bailielands Tinker Boy / Tyke and Bailielands Tiny Tempest / Nirley ( both generation 2)

Along came Bailiebroc Sukey who with Bailielands Tinker Boy produced the Nugger ( generation 3) 

Bailielands Cup o Coco / Coco Pups ( generation 3) is the daughter of Bailebroc Patch and Bailielands Tiny Babe.

This is a sporting kennel of jacks, we live in the west of Ireland on a 5 acre small holding surrounded by acres of bog & scrub and our dogs enjoy a hearty outdoor life with us even the very tiny ones.

The very small ones will easily catch rats and rabbit and will join in hunting mink in a pack, they are not permitted to fox.

The larger normal size jacks hunt foxes over ground and under ground.

These jacks have not been diluted by generations of sofa living. 

The original dogs Freddy's Boy, Sukey and Pippa were all from working kennels. 

Pippa can of course trace her ancestry back many many years as her breeder's have kept records since the 1950's.

Freddy's Boy and Sukey came from the kennel of a friend of mine who hunted their mother ( Clooncagh Squeak) over and under ground and the father ( Darkwood Max) was also a good digging dog.

The mother of Clooncagh Squeak was bred by another friend of mine who is terrierman for the most famous pack of foxhounds in Ireland. 

I do not show because the show scene in Ireland is skewed in favour of the few.

For example.. if you are a comittee member of a club or the IKC or a judge you or your close family members can still show your dogs, this is not permitted in many european countries, which makes sense because it is obviously biased to allow comittee members, their wives, children and close relatives to exhibit while they hold office. No one can get this changed here in Ireland because you have to be approved of by commitee members to get on the commitee :)

I do not show because I think it encourages favouring weakness in dogs, as it takes very little strength of character in a dog, very little health, very little brains and pitifully little soundness to win in a ring.  It takes a lot of brains, health and good nature to be a beloved family pet and effective hunting dog for a long healthy life.

This doesn't mean you can't win with my dogs, you probaby will if you are the right person here in Ireland or perhaps if you are lucky enough to show overseas in a fairer setting you will win because they are cracking dogs.

The little ones, the minijacks are not miniatures because they have no legs and are bow legged and dumpy they are completely scaled down, in proportion jacks. 

My minijacks are house pets but spend most of the day out and about the stables, poultry pens and yard with me, hunting rats and mice as they find them and mink (!) as a pack. 

These are real jacks, with real jack character and joie de vivre but just very small :)
